Taku
had been working as a technical instructor in Department of
Ceramics, Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University for two
and a half years, from April 2000 to October 2002. The
facility of the Faculty is located in Giza, separated from
the main building. It is situated close to University of
Cairo and Giza Zoo, which is just 3 km from central Cairo.
Therefore, the area is always lively with full of students.
Training around 100 university students on how to make
ceramics with electric potter's wheel was his main duty. He
conducted lessons in Arabic language mixed with English
every day. ２０００年４月から２００２年１０月までの２年６ヶ月間、ヘルワン大学応用美術学部（Faculty
of Applied Arts, Helwan
University)の陶芸学科で、主に電動ろくろによる制作指導をしていました。応用美術学部は本校とは離れたギザにあり、カイロ大学、動物園に隣接しています。カイロの中心部から３キロほどの場所で、いつも学生で賑やかなところです。陶芸学科には、約１００人の生徒がおり、ほとんどがエジプト人です。毎日、英語を交えながらのアラビア語で授業を行っていました。

私の一品I
love "Overall".
One-piece of work clothing made of cotton, just same as
the one automobile mechanics wear.
It is roomy and makes me move easily... just perfect for
the work of potter that get me muddy all the time.
I bought a piece of orange overall in Suke (Market) in
Cairo.
"Da esmo e ba (What is the name of this clothes)?", I
asked.
"Afrita"
In Arabic, the word Afrieta is also a term referring to
ghost or phantom.
Besides, it is used with admiration at godlike job.
When I am spinning the potter's wheel wearing an afrieta,
my students yell at me, partly for fun;
"Enta Afrita (You are genius)!"
"My job or this clothes?", I reply in a couple of
shakes.
They say in chorus, "That reply is!"
My favorite: An orange-colored afrieta.
It's only a janitor and me who wear afrieta in this large
campus.
自動車の整備士たちが着ているのと同じ、綿で出来たワンピースの作業着。
ゆったりとしていて動きやすいし、全身泥だらけになる陶芸の仕事にぴったりだ。
カイロのスークで、オレンジ色のツナギを買った。
『ダ エスモ エ バァ？(これ、なんて言うの？）』
『アフリ−タ。』
アフリータとは、おばけや幽霊を指す言葉でもある。
また、人間離れした凄い事をしたときに、感嘆の意味を込めて使うことも多い。
私がツナギを着てろくろを回していると、冷やかし半分で生徒達は叫ぶ。
『エンタ アフリータ！（オマエは人間離れした天才だ！）』
私は間髪入れずに答える。『仕事が？それともこの服か？』
生徒達は口をそろえて言う。『その返事がだよ！』
私の一品。オレンジ色のアフリータ。
この広い大学でアフリータを着ているのは、私とゴミ清掃のおじさんだけだ。
